The Online module is a complex engagement feature for virtual and hybrid events. Inside the attendee app, it can show a livestream, a Social Wall, interactive tabs (chat, questions, polls, private messages), and content tabs (materials, products, files, contacts). The Online module can be added multiple times — for example, one for the main livestream and another for a workshop stream. The module is accessed via the web attendee app; in the mobile app it opens through an in-app browser.
Decide what kind of online content you offer — a livestream of talks, a virtual booth with products, a Social Wall with a photo stream, or games.
The Online module is a paid / advanced feature — some types (Social Wall, games) are turned on by customer success.
Decide which interactive elements you want — chat, questions, polls, private messages, mood meter.
For a virtual event, the Online module is essential — it is the attendee's primary interface. For a physical event, it is a supplement.
The Happenee Online module has several variants / types, set up by the organizer (some require customer success):
Livestream — embed video from YouTube, Vimeo, or a custom streaming server. The main content is the video, with interactive tabs alongside it.
Social Wall — a space where attendees share photos and posts. Posting, liking, commenting. Often combined with Leaderboard (points for activity). Enabled by customer success.
Games / gamified activities — interactive elements (mini-games) turned on by customer support.
Virtual booths — a combination of a livestream and content sections (materials, contacts, products) for virtual expos. Enabled by customer success.
You add the Online module under Engagement → + Add → Online module. You can have several instances of the Online module in a single event (each for different content).
After you add it, open the edit panel:
Module name — visible on the home screen of the app.
Start — the date and time the module goes live (for example, when the livestream begins).
Visibility — all attendees, or selected groups only.
Module type (set by customer success for advanced types; some types are self-serve).
In the app, the Online module splits the screen:
Left side — the main content of the module: the livestream video, the Social Wall stream, or the game interface.
Right side — tabs (turned on optionally):
Interactive tabs:
Chat — everyone can write and read.
Private messages — one-to-one.
Questions — attendees ask questions; the organizer or moderator approves and displays them.
Anonymous questions — questions without identification.
Polls — real-time polls.
Mood meter — a simple emoji reaction to the current atmosphere.
Content tabs:
Materials — to download (PDF, slides, briefs).
Products — a virtual catalog.
Files — additional documents.
Contacts — for the organizing team, support, sales.
In the edit panel of the Online module, the Interactive tabs section is where you turn individual elements on (a toggle per feature). Each one has its own default settings:
Questions — on/off, approval before display, anonymous yes/no.
Chat — on/off, moderation.
Polls — on/off, results visible vs. hidden.
For virtual booths (typically the Online module = a virtual exhibition), you can assign a booth administrator. Happenee sends them a link they use to fill in the content of the tabs themselves (materials, products, contacts). This fits events where partners manage their own booth content (a virtual trade show).
The Online module collects detailed metrics:
Viewership chart — how many people watched the livestream and when.
Visitor list across all modules (Excel export).
Chat, questions — archived messages for review.
Activity in the content tabs — how many downloads, how many clicks.
Exports are available in the Online module panel under Reporting and content management.
The web attendee app — full support. The livestream and the interactions work natively in the browser.
The mobile app — access through an in-app browser. Visually and functionally identical to the web, just opened in a browser inside the mobile app.
The Social Wall is a specific type of the Online module — attendees share photos, videos, and posts. It supports likes and comments. It is enabled by customer success.
Use cases: a festival, a conference, an internal corporate event where you want an interactive experience between attendees.
Games (gamified mini-applications) are part of the Online module. You launch them via customer support. Typical use cases: quizzes, geocaching at the event, treasure hunts with QR codes.
In the admin you can rename the Online module from the default Online module to a specific name (Livestream Main Stage, Virtual booth Siemens). The name carries over to the home screen of the app.
Activities in the Online module (chat, photos, likes, comments) are often collected for Leaderboard. Both modules are set up together by customer success.
Adding the basic module is self-serve, but the Social Wall, games, and advanced types are turned on by customer success. Reach out to them with enough lead time.
Test the embed on a test account before going live. Use the embed URL (not the share URL from YouTube / Vimeo).
Set the start a little earlier than the actual livestream (for example, 13:45 for a 14:00 start). Give attendees room to join.
For larger livestreams, turn on question approval and have a moderator. The organizer or production checks questions before they show up.
Before the event, communicate the Social Wall rules (topic, respect, moderation). The moderator can delete inappropriate content from the admin.
Watch the viewership chart in real time. If the count drops and there is still a long way to go, consider a break or a notification asking attendees to come back.
Communicate that the mobile in-app browser is on par with the web, but some system features (fullscreen) may have less control. If there are problems, suggest opening the module in the phone's regular browser.
